Erasmus Program Scholarships

The Erasmus programme, the premier scheme for students throughout the EU who wish to study abroad, comes with a series of possible scholarships that are designed to aid the students in getting the placement they want. Students are split into categories for consideration as scholarship candidates.

Any student of any nationality, studying at a higher education institution which is awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education can apply. The mobility is carried out in the framework of prior "inter-institutional agreements" between the sending and receiving institutions.

Therefore, the decision on where to go should be discussed with the sending Higher Education Institution, and the first step for the students would be to apply to their international office and/or Erasmus+ office to get information about the possibilities of studying or doing a traineeship, abroad as well as the modalities to apply and to receive an Erasmus+ EU grant.

Also available are scholarships for students from within the EU who are required to contribute to their funding to some degree.

Will financial support be provided or fees charged?

Students may be awarded an Erasmus+ EU grant to help cover the travel and subsistence costs incurred in connection with their study period abroad.

Erasmus+ students - whether or not they receive an Erasmus+ EU grant - are exempted from paying fees for tuition, registration, examinations and access to laboratory and library facilities at the host institution.

The payment of any national grant or loan to outgoing students should be maintained during the study period abroad.

How to apply?

The interested student should apply to the international office and/or Erasmus+ office of his or her sending higher education institution. The office will inform him or her of the possibilities of studying abroad as well as the modalities to apply and to receive an Erasmus+ EU grant.

Who can apply?

Any student undertaking an Erasmus study program in a partner institution is eligible for an Erasmus Scholarship.

This includes students part taking in Masters and Doctorate Programs, not just Undergraduate and Bachelor degrees.

Where can I go on a Scholarship?

This is up to the applicant to decide by researching Erasmus exchange partner intstitutions and suitability of the course on offer. It will also depend on where you are wanting to go, with more scholarships available in places like the United Kingdom, Spain and France.

There are over a thousand institutions that are partners in the Erasmus Exchange program based throughout the world.

It's best to decide which partner institution suits your needs as a student best before looking into Scholarships.

Limited Scholarships are available, however often there are some that go unawarded due to the lack of applicants. It's advised that you apply for every Scholarship that you are elible for as in some circumstances you may be the best candidate without thinking you are.

Other Arrangements

If your preffereed institution is not listed as an official Erasmus Exchange partner, you can certainly still apply to do your study abroad there. This may limit the ammount of Scholarships that can be available to you.

So where should I start?

You should start by creating a shortlist of Institutions you would like to do your Erasmus Exchange at in the coming semester. It's recommended you create a list of at least 10 to begin with, and then you can rank them in order of priority.

To begin creating your list, you can find a directory of partner institions on this website by selecting the country above.

NOTE: We are currently updating the directory with new institutions daily. Please check back soon for more institutions.
